Behind the Scenes

Welcome back to Behind the Scenes with Florence, where we speak to the people helping our business grow.

Today, we’re chatting with operations associate Tony, who supports healthcare professionals using our app and has a passion for photography.

Who are you, and what do you do at Florence?

My name is Anthony C. Offor, I am an Operations Associate at Florence Canada. My role revolves around supporting the day-to-day operations of our innovative digital nursing staff app. I work closely with our team to ensure smooth document management, facilitate communication with healthcare professionals, and assist in coordinating the staffing process.

On a typical day, I handle various administrative tasks, such as reviewing and organizing documents, ensuring data accuracy, and keeping our records up-to-date. Additionally, I play a key role in reaching out to our healthcare professionals, addressing their queries, and ensuring they have a positive experience using our app.

I’m proud to be part of the Florence team, working towards creating meaningful connections between nurses and healthcare organizations, and ultimately making a positive impact on patient care.

What made you want to join Florence?

Learning about Florence and its mission to revolutionize the nursing industry through its app intrigued me. I was drawn to the idea of contributing to a startup that was making a real difference in the healthcare sector by connecting nurses with flexible work opportunities and helping healthcare organizations efficiently fill open shifts.

Ultimately, joining Florence was a combination of the start-up work environment, and the chance to be part of a team that’s making a meaningful impact in the healthcare industry.

Since joining, I've found Florence to be a place of growth, learning, and camaraderie, and I'm excited to continue contributing to the company's success.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

One of my mentors and close friends once told me to always stay curious and embrace a learning mindset.

He believes there's always something new to discover and learn, with that in mind I never hesitate to ask questions, seek guidance from my team, and stay open to learning from both successes and challenges.

Continuously expanding your knowledge and skill set will not only benefit someone's personal growth but also contribute to the success of whatever they are working on.

Embrace every opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve, and you'll find yourself becoming a valuable asset to your team.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Florence?

As an Operations Associate at Florence, my favourite thing about working here is witnessing the continuous growth and impact of the company. Since our launch in Canada, our healthcare professional network has grown to more than 4000 RN, RPN and PSWs.

It's incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that’s making a real impact helping nurses find work in this tough economy. I have the opportunity to support talented healthcare professionals to connect with healthcare organizations that need their expertise and that is an incredibly rewarding experience.

As we achieve each milestone, I take pride in seeing the dedication and hard work the team puts into their work. We support each other through challenges, celebrate successes, and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.

The shared desire to make Florence grow among the team makes the work experience here enjoyable and fulfilling. We share moments of laughter and foster a sense of unity, which further motivates us to give our best every day.

Seeing the growth of Florence and knowing that I play a role in its success brings me immense satisfaction. I'm excited about the future and the opportunities we have to create even greater impact in the healthcare industry.

What’s the biggest challenge Florence is facing at the moment?

That is an easy one, keeping up with the increasing demand on our app. As more healthcare organizations and nursing professionals recognize the value of Florence, the number of shifts being posted and applications being submitted is growing rapidly.

To address this challenge, our team is actively working on scaling and optimizing Florence to accommodate the constant increase in demand. We invest a lot of time in making sure we are working with the right clients, healthcare professionals and colleges on the team which in turn ensures Florence remains efficient, reliable, and user-friendly.

The growth and success of Florence are exciting, but we understand the importance of maintaining a high standard of service and ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional results for all users.

By proactively addressing the challenge of keeping up with demand, we aim to solidify our position as a leading digital nursing staff app and make a positive impact on the healthcare industry in Canada for centuries to come.

What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise us?

I love photography! I enjoy taking pictures in different lightings, during my free time, I enjoy capturing moments and scenes in various lightings and settings. Whether it's nature, cityscapes, or portraits of friends and family, photography allows me to express my creativity and capture the beauty of the world around me. It's a hobby that brings me joy and helps me unwind from the daily hustle of work.

From the moment I got my hands on my first camera, I was captivated by the art of freezing moments in time and preserving memories through the lens. Photography has become my favourite hobby; it's a way for me to express my creativity, share my unique perspective, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Who knows, maybe one day I'll get the chance to showcase some of my photography skills to the Florence team!

What piece of advice would you give to someone thinking about joining Florence? ‍

Stay curious and embrace a learning mindset. In the dynamic world of startups, there's always something new to discover and learn. Don't hesitate to ask questions, seek guidance from experienced team members, and be open to learning from both successes and challenges. Continuously expanding your knowledge and skill set will not only benefit your personal growth but also contribute to the success of our mission.

The point I am trying to make is that while it is very important to be skilled in the role you apply for, here at Florence we wear different hats based on the needs of the day. To impress the team, I would recommend showing us that outside the skills you need to be the best in your role you have other skills that can come in handy in tough situations.

Where do you see Florence in five years?

In five years I see Florence helping healthcare organizations all over Canada meeting their staffing needs. In the same way, when people think of smartphones, they instantly think of Apple or Samsung; I believe that Florence will become synonymous with exceptional healthcare experience for the average Canadian. We’ll be recognized as the leading and most trusted choice for both healthcare organizations, healthcare professionals.

As we expand, we'll continuously focus on enhancing our features, user experience, and overall performance. Our team will work tirelessly to ensure that Florence remains at the forefront of technology, offering cutting-edge solutions to streamline the nursing staffing process at every level.

To achieve this vision, we'll also establish strong partnerships with key players in the healthcare industry, foster positive relationships with nursing organizations, and actively engage with the healthcare community.
